Recap: South Carolina vs. Georgia

Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds, as the Georgia Bulldogs notched a 67-56 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks in Southeastern Conference play at Colonial Life Arena.

Reserves Charles Mann and Kenny Gaines each scored 11 points to help the Bulldogs (10-11, 4-4 SEC) win for the fourth time in their last five games.

Michael Carrera posted 16 points and seven boards to pace the Gamecocks (12-9, 2-6), who were coming off a 39-point drubbing at the hands of Florida earlier this week. Bruce Ellington scored 14, and Brian Richardson finished with 12 off the bench in the loss.

The first half featured five ties and 12 lead changes, although it was South Carolina claiming a slim 30-29 halftime lead despite shooting just 39.3 percent from the floor (11-of-28). Georgia shot 55 percent (11-of-20) in the opening frame.

The Bulldogs seized control thanks to a 60.9-percent shooting effort in the second stanza, while South Carolina made only 8-of-25 field goals (.320) after halftime. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Sherrard Brantley and Caldwell-Pope stretched Georgia's lead to 10 with four and a half minutes to play.

UGA committed three more turnovers than South Carolina for the game, yet the Bulldogs were more opportunistic as they held a key 16-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
