Recap: Marquette vs. LSU

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Davante Gardner scored 19 points and made five steals in just 21 minutes off the bench as the Marquette Golden Eagles slipped by the LSU Tigers, 84-80, in non-conference play at the Bradley Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Golden Eagles (8-3), as they registered their third win in the last four outings, were Junior Cadougan and Vander Blue who scored 17 points each, followed by Jamil Wilson with 11 in a reserve role for the hosts.

The Tigers (7-2) were paced by Andre Stringer who tallied a game-high 20 points, converting 6-of-10 shots behind the three-point line, as the team lost for the second time in the last three contests. Anthony Hickey contributed 18 points and seven rebounds, while Charles Carmouche recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 assists, followed by Johnny O'Bryant and Shavon Coleman with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Marquette shot an impressive 51.5 percent from the floor in the first half, yet even with a mere 2-of-12 accuracy beyond the arc, the team managed to mount a 45-33 lead at the break.

In the second half LSU went from only 33.3 percent shooting from the field through the first 20 minutes of action to making good on 53.1 percent, but at the same time the Golden Eagles hit on all but one of their 16 chances at the free-throw line in order to secure the four-point win.

Marquette, which turned the ball over 16 times, leading to 20 points for the Tigers, outscored the visitors at the charity stripe by a 24-12 margin.
