Recap: Michigan vs. Ohio State

Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) - The standout point guards from Ohio went at it all night.

Shut down by the pesky Aaron Craft for most of game, the Columbus native Trey Burke shined down the stretch.

Burke had eight of his 16 points over the final eight-plus minutes of regulation and overtime in No. 3 Michigan's 76-74 win over 10th-ranked Ohio State.

Burke hit a 3-pointer that gave the Wolverines the lead for good 37 seconds into the extra session and then played stupendous on-the-ball defense on Craft before Tim Hardaway Jr. blocked him from behind on the last play of the contest.

"I saw the ball in my face, so I just tried to wrap it up," Hardaway said of the block "Probably got his arm or something like that, but like I said, it's up to the refs to call that call, and they let it go."

Neither team scored over the next 3:28 after Burke's three until Craft's driving layup pulled Ohio State within 75-74 with 55 seconds to go.

At the other end, Burke had the ball at the top of the key, but Craft stripped him and raced the other way. But the hustling Burke got back on defense and knocked the ball out of bounds.

With the shot clock now off, Craft drove past Burke, but Burke recovered and swatted Craft's jumper from behind. Glenn Robinson III split a pair from the foul line to give Michigan its two-point edge with 7.6 remaining.

Hardaway netted 23 points and hit five straight 3-pointers to lead a second- half comeback for Michigan (21-2, 8-2 Big Ten), which rebounded after Saturday's loss at Indiana when it held the No. 1 ranking.

Burke added eight assists in the triumph.

The Wolverines went 14-of-28 from 3-point range and hit as many triples as two-point baskets.

Deshaun Thomas tallied 17 points and Craft added 11 and seven rebounds for the Buckeyes (17-5, 7-3), who had their four-game winning streak snapped.

It was the first time that the two fierce rivals squared off against one another when both were ranked in the top 10.

Hardaway's 3-point barrage began when his Wolverines trailed 48-40 with 13:01 left in the second half. Hardaway nailed four of those triples during a a 15-6 run, including one to cap the burst and make it 55-54 in favor of Michigan with 8:45 left. His fifth consecutive trey vaulted the Maize and Blue to a 62-60 edge with 5:26 to play in regulation.

A bit later, Burke's left wing trey gave the Wolverines a three-point spread. At the other end, Thomas initially missed a left wing triple, but Lenzelle Smith quickly stole the ball away from Nik Stauskas before feeding Thomas for another 3-point try from the exact same spot. His second attempt went down to knot the tilt at 68-68 with 2:19 to go in the period.

Hardaway sunk a pair from the line before LaQuinton Ross nailed a jumper and Burke's drive and dish to Mitch McGary gave the hosts a 72-70 margin with 1:05 left.

Lenzelle Smith's step-back jumper with 29 ticks tied it and Burke's trey at the buzzer was off the mark. It was Michigan's lone miss from beyond the arc on nine attempts in the second half.

Earlier, the home team went on an early 12-0 surge to open up an 18-8 spread before the Buckeyes rallied to take a 31-30 edge into the break.
