Recap: Minnesota vs. Penn State

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Trevor Mbakwe tallied a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds as the Minnesota Golden Gophers made easy work of the Penn State Nittany Lions, 73-44, in Big Ten Conference action at Williams Arena.

Joe Coleman scored 12 points off the bench for Minnesota (20-9, 8-8 Big Ten), which took down top-ranked Indiana on Tuesday night. Andre Hollins chipped in 11 points, while Julian Welch (10 points, seven assists) and Rodney Williams (10 points, seven rebounds) were also effective for the home team.

D.J. Newbill netted 15 points and Jermaine Marshall added 10 points as PSU (9-19, 1-15) fell back on its losing ways after upsetting Michigan on Wednesday.

Minnesota shot 52 percent from the field in the first half and held PSU to a lowly 21.7 percent, as it carried a comfortable 34-12 advantage into intermission.

The Gophers put the game on cruise control after the break as they led by as many as 35.

Minnesota held a dominating 46-30 advantage in the rebounding battle.
