Recap: Purdue vs. Hofstra

West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) - Anthony Johnson scored 14 points off the bench as the Purdue Boilermakers cruised to an 83-54 victory over the Hofstra Pride in the 2K Sports Classic at Mackey Arena.

Sandi Marcius added 11 points for Purdue (1-1). Ronnie Johnson did a great job controlling the pace of the game and finished with nine points, seven assists, and three steals. All but one of the 14 Boilermakers who played in the contest managed to score.

Jimmy Hall paced Hofstra (0-2) with a game-high 17 points and five rebounds. The Pride's starting backcourt of Moussa Kone and Stevie Mejia struggled and combined to shoot 3-of-16 from the field.

Purdue jumped out to an early 18-5 lead as it completely shutdown Hofstra's offense. The Pride went into the intermission trailing 42-17 after they shot 23.8 percent from the field in the first half. The Boilermakers connected on 55.9 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes.

The Boilermakers increased their lead to as many as 35 in the second half as their bench outscored the visitor's reserves by 21 points.

Purdue held a dominant, 50-22 edge in the rebounding battle in its first-ever meeting with Hofstra.
