Recap: Kansas State vs. Baylor

Manhattan, KS (Sports Network) - Angel Rodriguez recorded 22 points and 10 assists and Shane Southwell added 18 points on a silky 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point range to help No. 10 Kansas State roll past Baylor, 81-61, on Saturday at Fred Bramlage Coliseum.

Jordan Henriquez registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards for the Wildcats (20-5, 9-3 Big 12), who bounced back from a crushing defeat at rival Kansas on Monday. Rodney McGruder and Will Spradling contributed 10 and seven points, respectively, in the victory.

"It was a good win against an obviously good team," Kansas State coach Bruce Weber said." They are very talented. You can see how explosive they are. We talked about 40 minutes and, against them, it is something that you have to play because they can get that 12-0 run. They have a lot of weapons. I thought our guys did a good job. We talked about making our guys accountable on defense, and we did that."

A.J. Walton paced Baylor with 14 points and Isaiah Austin scored 13 and grabbed six rebounds for the Bears (16-9, 7-5), who fell for the first time in their last three contests. Brady Heslip had 12 points -- all of which came on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc -- in the defeat.

The home team pulled ahead by 14 points to start the second half, but the Bears used a 12-0 run to get within 43-41 with just under 13 minutes remaining.

Kansas State then regained control of the contest with a 16-4 flurry, highlighted by Henriquez's slam and monster block on Heslip's layup, which made it 59-45 with seven-plus minutes to play.

Baylor had no answers after its furious charge to get back into the contest, and failed to show any spark for the remainder of the second half. The Bears trailed by double-digits for the remainder of the game.

"I thought Kansas State showed why they are the 10th-ranked team in the nation," Baylor coach Scott Drew said. "We have done a much better job of taking care of the ball in other games and in the backcourt. K-State forced us into 19 turnovers. So, hats off to their defense. The second thing was offensive rebounding. That was disappointing. Second chance points were 15-5 them, and that kind of sums up the game right there."

Rodriguez's 3-pointer at the midway point of the first half brought the home team within 16-15. Southwell then kicked off a 15-8 spurt with back-to-back treys before the Wildcats held a 30-24 edge with 3:34 remaining in the half.

KSU increased its advantage to 38-29 at the break.
