Recap: Texas vs. Iowa State

Austin, TX (Sports Network) - Sheldon McClellan was responsible for all 10 of the Longhorns' points in the second extra session to lift Texas to a 89-86 double-overtime victory over the Iowa State Cyclones in a Big 12 Conference thriller at the Frank Erwin Center.

McClellan finished 18 points and eight rebounds for the Longhorns (11-13, 3-8 Big 12) as they snapped a two-game losing streak. Connor Lammert and Ioannis Papapetrou chipped in 14 points apiece while Myck Kabongo tallied 13 points and seven assists in his first game of the season after sitting out the first 23 games due to a suspension handed down from the NCAA. Javan Felix came off the bench to tally 12 points in the win.

Tyrus McGhee paced ISU (16-8, 6-5) with 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the floor while Melvin Ejim registered a double-double of 20 points and 16 boards. Will Clyburn chipped in 20 points and seven rebounds while Korie Lucious dealt out 11 assists. The loss was the second in a row for the Cyclones, who fell to 2-7 in true road games.

The Cyclones hit just 31.1 percent of their field goal tries in the opening 20 minutes, but connected on 5-of-11 from 3-point range and 12-of-14 at the charity stripe to take a 37-33 lead into halftime. Texas trailed at the break despite sinking 50 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half.

ISU improved to shot 39.4 percent from the floor in the second stanza, but the Longhorns went 13-of-24 from the field and made 11-of-12 at the charity stripe to overcome the halftime deficit. The Cyclones were in front, 71-68, with seconds remaining before Papapetrou forced overtime with a clutch 3-pointer.

Neither side could pull away in the first overtime. After Lucious tied it up at 79 with 1:21 showing on the clock, both sides missed potentially game- winning field goal tries.

Ejim put the visitors ahead, 86-85, with one minute left in the second overtime. Texas overcame the late ISU lead as McClellan scored the final four points of the contest at the charity stripe to clinch the win for the Longhorns.

The Longhorns held a narrow, 43-41 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored ISU, 40-24, in the paint to survive the thriller.
