Recap: TCU vs. Kansas

Fort Worth, TX (Sports Network) - Garlon Green poured in a game-high 20 points to help TCU earn its first-ever win over a top-5 team, as the Horned Frogs shocked No. 5 Kansas, 62-55, on Wednesday at Daniel-Meyers Coliseum.

Connell Crossland added eight points and 15 rebounds for the Horned Frogs (10-12, 1-8 Big 12), who earned their first-ever Big 12 win after leaving the Mountain West at the start of the season.

"It means a lot. Obviously we've had some tough years," Green said. "We've had a tough year right now, but this is a big win. We need to carry this momentum."

Kansas, which was coming off its first conference loss on Saturday against Oklahoma State, shot just 13.6 percent (3-for-22) in the first half en route to dropping back-to-back games for the first time since Jan. 14 and 16, 2006, a span of 264 games.

"It was the worst team that Kansas ever put on the floor, since Dr. Naismith was there," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "I think he had some bad teams when he lost to Topeka YMCA and things like that in the first couple years. But for the first half, there hasn't been a team play worse than that offensively."

Ben McLemore led the Jayhawks (19-3, 7-2) with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Jeff Withey added 12 points, eight boards and three blocks in the setback.

Kansas struggled to shake off the effects of its first conference loss of the season, as the Jayhawks opened the game 1-of-15 from the field and found themselves trailing 17-4 with under five minutes left in the first half.

The Jayhawks were able to close the first half on a 7-2 spurt to pull within 22-13 at the break, but Kyan Anderson opened the second half with a 3-pointer to push the margin back above double digits.

After a Kevin Young layup brought Kansas within eight, TCU ripped off a 10-2 surge to grab a 37-21 advantage with 11:42 left in the game.

Kansas then used a 17-5 outburst get back in the game. Withey poured in the first six points of the surge, while Naadir Tharpe netted nine in the run, including the final four from the free-throw line to make it 42-38 with 7:20 to play.

The margin was four under a minute later after a Withey jumper, but Kansas' offense again fell silent, as the Jayhawks went the next four-plus minutes without a field goal, allowing the Horned Frogs to build a 53-41 cushion with 2:49 remaining.

Tharpe's layup at the other end sparked a 12-5 Kansas run to bring the Jayhawks within 58-53 with 36 seconds on the clock, but the visitors missed their next five shots and TCU knocked down just enough free throws to hang on for the triumph.
