Recap: Kansas State vs. Texas

Manhattan, KS (Sports Network) - Thomas Gipson led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds as No. 18 Kansas State had an easy time with Texas, 83-57, at Bramlage Coliseum.

Omari Lawrence totaled 12 points, while Angel Rodriguez added 11 with eight assists for the Wildcats (16-4, 5-2 Big 12), who snapped a two-game in- conference losing streak.

"We had two tough losses so we have to practice hard," Lawrence remarked. "We bounced back with a lot of good energy and effort today. We were really productive."

Sheldon McClellan posted 15 points for the Longhorns (9-11, 1-6), who have dropped six of their last seven. Jaylen Bond contributed 12 points and eight boards in defeat.

"They played a great game tonight," Texas coach Rick Barnes said of Kansas State. "We certainly helped them by not fighting."

The hosts put the game out of reach early on, turning a 5-4 deficit into a 21-9 advantage.

Rodriguez began the run with a trey, and Jordan Henriquez added a slam. A Lawrence jumper put the hosts up 11-7 inside of six minutes played, and Gipson's bucket gave the Wildcats a six-point margin. Later in the spurt, Lawrence converted a layup, then Nino Williams added a basket and Will Spradling closed it out on a lay-in for a 12-point advantage with 8:28 remaining before halftime.

K-State's lead ballooned to 27-13 with just under five minutes left in the half after a triple from Shane Southwell. Lawrence's tip-in made it 38-17 before McClellan's free throws made it a 19-point spread at the break.

Texas was only able to close its deficit to 13 points, the last time coming on Julien Lewis' three-point play with 12:03 left in the contest which made it 53-40.

The Wildcats then blew open the contest with a 14-2 run thereafter, ending on a Martavious Irving shot from beyond the arc which made it 67-42 inside of eight minutes to go. Rodriguez scored the first five points in the surge.
