Recap: UAB vs. East Carolina

Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Ty Armstrong had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead six players in double figures as the East Carolina Pirates earned a 91-85 victory in a Conference USA shootout at Bartow Arena.

Maurice Kemp added 17 points, Miguel Paul had 12 points and a career-high 14 assists, Akeem Richmond chipped in 12 points off the bench and Robert Sampson contributed 10 points for East Carolina (12-6, 3-2 C-USA) which has won three of its last four.

Rod Rucker had a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, Jordan Swing netted 16 points, Quincy Taylor added 14 and Terence Jones had 11 points to go with seven assists for UAB (8-11, 0-4) which has lost five straight.

East Carolina led 41-38 at the break after shooting 56.7 percent from the field in the first half. UAB kept pace despite shooting just 39.5 percent from the field by hitting 7-of-13 from beyond the arc.

The Pirates kept shooting well in the second half, connecting on 53.6 percent from the field and, with a 14-3 edge from the free-throw line, were able to hold on for the win.

East Carolina overcame a game-high 20 assists in the contest. The two teams combined for 22 3-pointers and 44 assists.
