Recap: Arizona vs. California

Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) - Allen Crabbe and Justin Cobbs exploded in the second half, combining for 36 of the Golden Bears' final 44 points, as California knocked off No. 7 Arizona, 77-69, at McKale Center.

Crabbe had 19 of his game-high 31 points over the final 20 minutes. He connected on 12-of-15 attempts from the field for the contest -- including 4- of-7 from long distance -- as California (14-9, 6-5 Pac 12) captured its third win in four games.

Cobbs finished with 21 points for the game and his layup with under a minute remaining sealed the victory for the Golden Bears.

"The key was we got into a really nice offensive rhythym," said California coach Mike Montgomery. "It was a heck of a win for us."

The Wildcats (20-3, 8-3) suffered just their second home loss of the season as their four-game winning streak came to an end. Mark Lyons scored 16 points and Solomon Hill added 13 in the setback.

"I give Cal tremendous credit. They did a great job," said Arizona coach Sean Miller. "That's the best job that anyone has played against our defense when you look at what they shot from the field, 59 percent. They had 30 field goals, which I know is a high. I don't believe any team has come close to making 30 shots against our defense. They did an incredible job."

Arizona held a 38-33 edge at halftime, but were outscored by 13 points in second half.

Crabbe and Cobbs quickly turned a five-point deficit into a 10-point lead for California, as they did all the work during a 17-2 surge, with Crabbe's four- point play giving the Golden Bears a 50-40 advantage less than five minutes into the second half.

The run proved to be a killer for the Wildcats, as they would never regain the lead. Their last chance came following Lyons' 3-pointer with 2:05 remaining, bringing Arizona within 71-69.

However, Crabbe hit a clutch jumper at the other end to push the Golden Bears' edge back up to four. Arizona had three opportunities to score on its next possession, but couldn't put the ball in the basket.

Cobbs then added the finishing touches by banking a layup off the glass with 42 seconds to go and then connected on a pair of free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

Game Notes

Arizona still holds a 55-29 lead in the all-time series ... California shot 58.8 percent for the game and converted 11-of-12 from the free throw line ... Brandon Ashley scored 12 for Arizona, which shot just 39.3 percent for the game.
