Recap: UAB vs. Marshall

Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Rod Rucker registered a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as he helped guide the UAB Blazers to a 75-61 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd in a Conference USA meeting at Bartow Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Blazers (11-13, 3-6 CUSA) were Preston Purifoy with 15 points, Jordan Swing 13 and Robert Williams 12 points as the squad won for the third time in the last four outings.

The Herd (10-14, 3-6) was paced by DeAndre Kane with a game-high 23 points, followed by Elijah Pittman with 15 points as the team suffered a second straight setback and the fifth in the last six outings. Nigel Spikes accounted for 10 rebounds, six points and four blocked shots.

UAB made good on 5-of-10 shots behind the 3-point line in the first half and used a late 8-0 run to move out to a sizeable lead that turned into a 38-25 advantage at the break.

In the second half the hosts connected on 54.2 percent from the field, including 4-of-6 on the perimeter, as they cruised to the 14-point win.

The Blazers survived the outing despite turning the ball over 20 times.
