Recap: Marshall vs. UAB

Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Jordan Swing registered a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Blazers as UAB completed the season series sweep of its Conference USA rival Marshall Thundering Herd with a 52-48 victory at the Cam Henderson Center.

Rod Rucker chipped in 13 points to go along with eight boards for UAB (13-14, 5-7 C-USA) as it collected its fourth win in five games. Robert Williams made an impact on the glass with 11 rebounds.

Elijah Pittman paced Marshall (12-16, 5-8) with 18 points while Nigel Spikes just missed a double-double with nine points and 15 rebounds. The setback marked the second in three games for the Herd.

The Blazers took control early on and carried a 30-17 lead into halftime despite hitting on only 33.3 percent of their field goal tries in the first period Marshall made just 19.4 percent of its shots from the floor and missed all 13 of its attempts from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes.

UAB continued to struggle in the second stanza, as it went 8-of-30 from the field and committed eight turnovers. The Thundering Herd managed to rally back from a 19-point deficit to tie the score at 46 with 2:51 left in regulation on a jumper by Spikes. Fahro Alihodzic put the visitors back on top on the ensuing possession with a make at the charity stripe and the Blazers increased their lead to five with just 14 seconds showing on the clock. DeAndre Kane made it a one-possession game with a successful trip to the free-throw line and Preston Purifoy turned it over to give Marshall one last chance. However, Tamron Manning's potentially game-tying 3-point attempt in the closing seconds fell off the mark which granted the win to UAB.

The Blazers held a 50-45 edge in the rebounding battle in the contest. Both teams struggled from distance as UAB went 4-of-18 from 3-point range and Marshall made only 3-of-26 from beyond the arc.
