Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. Idaho

El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Jalen Ragland scored 17 points as the Texas-El Paso Miners held off the Idaho Vandals to pick up a 64-60 decision in a non- conference tilt at the Don Haskins Center.

Julian Washburn added 16 points for the Miners (3-4), who are now on a two- game winning streak. John Bohannon contributed a double-double off the bench with 15 points and 10 boards.

Connor Hill paced Idaho (3-5) with 16 points. No other player scored in double-figures for the Vandals, who had won their previous two games.

Neither side could gain much of an advantage in the opening period, but UTEP managed to take a 32-29 lead into halftime after it converted 52.2 percent of its field goal attempts. The Vandals stayed in striking distance by shooting 50 percent from the field.

The Miners came out of the intermission with some force and used a 20-5 run to go on top, 52-34, with 12:16 left in regulation. The Vandals made only one field goal in the first eight minutes of the second half. Idaho battled back and Robert Harris knocked down a jumper to cut the deficit to two points with 12 seconds left, but Washburn drained a pair of free throws to seal the victory for the hosts.

Idaho made only 12-of-21 attempts at the charity stripe in the contest. The Miners committed only eight turnovers to overcome their 31-25 loss in the rebounding battle.
