Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. SMU

El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Jacques Streeter led all scorers with 18 points, and the Texas-El Paso Miners defeated the SMU Mustangs, 63-54, in Conference USA play at the Don Haskins Center.

Konner Tucker added 12 points for the Miners (10-7, 3-1 C-USA), winners of nine out of 10 home games on the season.

Shawn Williams tallied 16 points and seven rebounds to pace the Mustangs (11-9, 1-4), who have dropped five of their last six overall. Jalen Jones chipped in with 15 points, while Nick Russell scored 12 in the loss.

Streeter scored 17 of his 18 points in the first half, as he shot a perfect 5- of-5 from the perimeter to help lift the Miners to a comfortable, 35-21 halftime advantage. UTEP shot 54.5 percent as a team and 7-of-10 from the perimeter in the opening frame.

UTEP led by as many as 17 on Cedrick Lang's layup with 14:12 remaining. Still, the Mustangs refused to go quietly as they cut the deficit to 55-46 with 4:22 to play. However, Lang answered with four straight points, knocking down a pair of free throws and a jumper, to end the threat.

The Mustangs committed 20 turnovers for the game, as they lost for the 18th time in the last 20 meetings with the state-rival Miners.
