Recap: Houston vs. Rice

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Leon Gibson had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Houston Cougars to an 84-62 rout of the Rice Owls in a Conference USA clash at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Joseph Young paced Houston (17-11, 6-9 C-USA) with 20 points and TaShawn Thomas had 16 points and eight rebounds. The Cougars have now won two straight games.

Tamir Jackson scored 25 points to lead Rice (5-24, 1-14), which remains winless since upending Houston on Jan. 30. Austin Ramljak and Julian DeBose added 14 and 11 points, respectively.

After trading baskets early on, Houston closed the first half on a 25-15 run to lead 40-27 at the break. Eight Cougars registered first-half points.

Houston shot 53.6 percent in the second half while holding Rice to just two second chance points.

The Cougars outrebounded Rice, 44-20, and improved to 59-19 all-time against the Owls.
