Recap: Tulsa vs. Rice

Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) - Shaquille Harrison led the way with 14 points as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane took down the Rice Owls, 64-51, in a Conference USA clash at the Reynolds Center.

For the Golden Hurricane (10-7, 2-1 C-USA), Pat Swilling Jr. added 12 points and Kauri Black finished with 10 points.

Tamir Jackson led the Owls (3-12, 0-2) with 14 points, while Seth Gearhart chipped in with 12 points.

Rice shot 41.7 from the field in the first half, including a red-hot 8-of-13 from beyond the 3-point arc, as it took a 33-26 advantage into halftime. Tulsa opened the contest connecting on 50 percent of its field goal tries, but just 2-of-8 from 3-point range.

In the second half, the Golden Hurricane continued to knock down shots, making 56.3 percent of its field goal attempts, though it missed all three of its 3-point tries. In addition to its prowess from the field, Tulsa also dominated from the free-throw line in the second half, outscoring Rice 20-3 at the charity stripe. As a team, the Owls shot a paltry 25 percent from the field and just 3-of-11 from 3-point distance. The score was tied at 51-51 with just under five minutes to play, but the Owls would not score the rest of the way, as the Golden Hurricane scored the game's final 13 points to grab the victory, its 13th straight against the Owls.

Tulsa dominated the paint, outscoring Rice 32-8. The Golden Hurricane also had the edge on the boards, outrebounding the Owls, 36-21.
