Recap: Rice vs. SMU

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Ryan Manuel tallied 16 points to lead the SMU Mustangs over the Rice Owls, 61-39, in a Conference USA clash at the Tudor Fieldhouse.

Manuel was 6-of-9 from the field for the Mustangs (13-12, 3-7 C-USA) who have recently struggled, losing five of their six previous games. Jalen Jones scored 15 points and Nick Russell added 12 while Cannen Cunningham led all players on the boards with 13 rebounds to go with six blocks.

Julian DeBose scored 14 points and was the top scorer for the Owls (5-18, 1-8) who have lost three in a row and 11 of their last 13 games. Tamir Jackson contributed 11 points but shot just 2-of-16 from the field and 1-of-8 from 3- point range.

After Rice shot just 20.0 percent from the field in the first half, SMU led 26-17 at halftime.

The Owls shooting worsened in the second half as the squad shot 19.2 percent from the floor and were outscored 35-22.

The Mustangs earned a 40-30 rebounding edge and held Rice to an extremely low, 19.6 percent shooting from the field.
