Recap: SMU vs. Rice

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - In a Conference USA matchup at Moody Coliseum, Cannen Cunningham recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead the SMU Mustangs over the Rice Owls, 67-55.

Cunningham earned nine of his points at the free-throw line and also had three blocks for the Mustangs (14-14, 4-9 C-USA), who earned just their second win in the last six games. Nick Russell also scored 13 points, while Shawn Williams led the team with 17 points and had three blocks of his own.

Tamir Jackson paced the Owls (5-22, 1-12) with 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals but shot just 8-of-26 from the field, including 3-of-13 from beyond the arc. Max Guercy was the only other player to score in double figures with 16 points, as Rice suffered its seventh consecutive loss.

SMU led 35-20 at intermission after shooting 63.6 percent from the field in the first half while holding the Owls to a lowly 29.6 percent shooting.

In the second half, the Mustangs' field goal efficiency dipped to 46.7 percent but their advantage was never in doubt.

SMU earned a 40-23 advantage on the boards and outscored Rice at the foul line, 21-8.
