Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Brian Bernardi scored 20 points off the bench as the SMU Mustangs cruised by the Furman Paladins, 72-53, in a non-conference matchup at Moody Coliseum.

Jalen Jones had 14 points and eight rebounds while Cannen Cunningham tallied 13 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double for SMU (10-4). Shawn Williams added 10 points for the Mustangs who had lost three of their previous four games.

Bryant Irwin netted 15 points and Colin Reddick added 12 points for Furman (3-9) which has lost four straight.

The Mustangs led 38-23 at the end of the first half after connecting on 50.0 percent of their shots from the floor while limiting Furman to just 28.0 percent shooting.

SMU cooled to 35.0 percent shooting in the second half but it was more than enough to secure the win as the Paladins again shot below 30 percent from the field.

The Mustangs outscored the Paladins 22-10 on points in the paint and had a 27-11 edge in points from the free throw line. Furman lost despite outscoring the Mustangs from beyond the arc (30-15).
