Recap: SMU vs. Tulane

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Nick Russell led four Mustangs in double figures, scoring 13 points, as SMU defeated the Tulane Green Wave, 59-53, in a Conference USA matchup at Moody Coliseum.

Russell recorded seven assists for the Mustangs (11-7, 1-3 C-USA) in the win. Jalen Jones, Ryan Manuel and London Giles all scored 10 points apiece as SMU snapped a three-game losing streak.

For the Green Wave (12-5, 0-2), Ricky Tarrant scored a game-high 24 points, making 11-of-13 at the free-throw line. Josh Davis recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but he was also guilty of eight turnovers. Jordan Callahan chipped in 10 points as Tulane lost for the second time in as many games.

The first half was even until SMU went on an 11-1 run with 6:25 remaining, providing the hosts with a 29-19 advantage at the break.

SMU was 10-of-19 from the floor, including 2-of-4 3-point long range, while limiting Tulane to a mere 1-of-6 out on the perimeter in the second half.

SMU played impressive defense, forcing 21 turnovers and limiting its opponents to 31.8 percent accuracy from the floor and only 12.5 percent beyond the arc.
