Recap: Sam Houston St vs. Southern Miss

Huntsville, TX (Sports Network) - Dwayne Davis netted 27 points to power the Southern Miss Golden Eagles to a 61-49 victory over the Sam Houston State Bearkats as part of the Legends Classic at Bernard Johnson Coliseum.

Davis hit on 9-of-12 shots in the game including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc for Southern Miss (3-0) which remains unbeaten. Jonathan Mills posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Jeremy McKay was the only player for Sam Houston State (1-3) in double figures with 10 points.

Southern Miss led 34-28 at the end of the first half shooting 47.8 percent from the floor while holding Sam Houston State to just six field goals in the first half, four of which came from beyond the arc.

The Golden Eagles continued to pull away in the second half by knocking down 52.4 percent of their shot attempts over the final 20 minutes.

Southern Miss dominated inside by outscoring the Bearkats 28-4 on points in the paint while holding a 32-26 edge in rebounds.
