Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Southern Miss Golden Eagles earned an exciting 69-67 win over the Georgia State Panthers at GSU Sports Arena, behind a career-high performance by Jerrold Brooks, who scored 23 points.

Brooks was 7-of-10 from the field including 4-of-7 from 3-point range while also leading the team with four assists and three steals. Dwayne Davis scored 12 points off the bench for Southern Miss (8-3), which has now won two games in a row after a three game losing slump. Jonathan Mills pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

For Georgia State (5-6), R.J. Hunter led all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor including six 3-pointers. Manny Atkins had five assists and four rebounds while he and Devonta White added 13 points each in the second consecutive loss for the Panthers.

Georgia State led 34-31 at halftime after Hunter hit a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left in the half.

In the second half the Golden Eagles trailed by as much as 11 but were able to put things together as they fought back and took the lead, 65-63, with 2:21 left. After two free throws by White tied the game back up, Brooks hit a 3-pointer to put Southern Miss back on top for good as the Eagles held on for the victory.

Southern Miss' bench was the key factor in the win as it supplied 36 points compared to just seven points from Georgia State's bench.
