Recap: Utah vs. Sacramento St

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Dylan Garrity scored 19 points and handed out five assists to lead the Sacramento Sate Hornets to a 74-71 victory over the Utah Utes in a non-conference contest at the Huntsman Center.

For the Hornets (3-0), John Dickson added 16 points and Mikh McKinney chipped in 13 points. Joe Eberhard also made an impact with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Glen Dean led the Utes (1-1) with 16 points. Jarred DuBois contributed 13 points, but went 0-of-5 from beyond the arc. Renan Lenz helped on the offensive end as well with 10 points while Cedric Martin provided game-highs of seven assists and four steals. Martin tied Dallin Bachynski for the team-high as they both grabbed seven boards.

Utah connected on 50 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, but it made only 3-of-12 from beyond the three-point arc before the break. Sacramento State managed to shoot just 37.9 percent from the floor, but went into the intermission trailing by a narrow 38-34 margin due to 6-of-13 shooting from distance in the opening 20 minutes.

After halftime, the Hornets continued to punish their opponent from the perimeter by making 4-of-10 three-point attempts. The Utes shot 44.8 percent from the floor, but again struggled from the outside with only two makes on nine of their attempts from long range. After trailing by as many as 10 points midway through the second half, the Hornets mounted a steady comeback. Garrity gave the Hornets the lead for good by making a jumper from the top of the key with just 1:29 remaining. Dean missed a pair of potentially game-tying three- point attempts in the closing five seconds, which gave the Hornets their third straight win to start the season.

Sacramento State held a slim 38-34 advantage in the rebounding battle and made 8-of-10 attempts at the charity stripe over the final 20 minutes to steal the win.
