Recap: San Diego St vs. Boise State

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Chase Tapley knocked down a clutch 3-pointer with four seconds left in regulation to lift the San Diego State Aztecs to a 63-62 victory over the Boise State Broncos in a Mountain West Conference thriller at Viejas Arena.

Tapley had missed his previous four attempts from distance before sinking the game-winner to arrive at a total of 12 points, which he accompanied with five assists to help San Diego State (17-5, 5-3 MWC) collect its third win in four outings. James Rahon tallied 16 points while Jamaal Franklin contributed 14 points and eight boards. J.J. O'Brien also got into the mix for the Aztecs with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.

Mikey Thompson and Derrick Marks scored 16 points apiece for Boise State (15-7, 3-5), which was coming off of a win over UNLV. Kenny Buckner chimed in with 10 points off the bench while Ryan Watkins grabbed nine rebounds.

The Aztecs went 15-of-28 from the floor and assisted 10 of their makes to take a 38-28 lead into the intermission. Boise State trailed at the break even though it pulled down 10 offensive rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.

The Broncos refused to go away and rallied back by shooting an even 50 percent from the field after halftime. San Diego State cooled off to make only 37.5 percent of its shots from the floor in the second half. Marks broke a 58-58 tie at the 3:20 mark with a 3-pointer that silenced the crowd at Viejas Arena. Neither side managed to score again until Franklin put in a layup with 14 seconds showing on the clock. The Aztecs fouled Marks to extend the game, and he added a point to his total before missing the back end of his trip to the charity stripe. Franklin corralled the rebound to set up Tapley for his late game heroics.

Boise State kept itself in the game by scoring 18 points off of the Aztecs' 10 turnovers, but San Diego State managed to overcome its miscues along with its 8-of-18 showing at the charity stripe by limiting the Broncos to 40 percent shooting from the floor in the contest.
