Recap: Connecticut vs. Washington

Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Omar Calhoun scored a team-high 14 points to lift the Connecticut Huskies to a 61-53 decision over the Washington Huskies in a non-conference tilt at the XL Center.

Shabazz Napier added 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for UConn (10-2) as it extended its winning streak to four games. Ryan Boatright chipped in 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field.

Scott Suggs tallied a game-high 15 points for Washington (8-5), but none of his teammates joined him in double-figures. Andrew Andrews and Shawn Kemp Jr. chipped in nine points each while Desmond Simmons grabbed 10 rebounds. The loss snapped Washington's streak of four consecutive victories.

Washington jumped in front early and took a 16-10 advantage when Suggs drained a jumper just under six minutes after tip-off, but the hosts came roaring back with an 11-0 run. UConn went into the intermission on top, 31-26, after it converted 11-of-16 attempts at the charity stripe. The visitors trailed after they hit only 32.3 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes.

UConn heated up after the break to knock down 57.1 percent of its shots from the field. Washington was unable to overcome its halftime deficit as it managed to make just 27.3 percent of its field goal tries in the second period.

Neither side managed to find an accurate touch from beyond the arc as they combined to go 6-of-31 from 3-point range.

The victory came after the university announced that Connecticut's coach Kevin Ollie received a new six-year contract.
