Recap: Pepperdine vs. Washington St

Malibu, CA (Sports Network) - Lorne Jackson made a go-ahead layup with 12 seconds left to play in overtime to lift the Pepperdine Wave to a thrilling 58-56 win over the Washington State Cougars in a non-conference tilt at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Jackson finished with a team-high 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor as Pepperdine (1-2) picked up its first victory of the season. Stacy Davis scored 14 points, Jordan Baker netted 13 points, and Caleb Willis handed out a game-high eight assists for the Wave. Baker also made an impact on the defensive end of the floor with five steals, which was one more than the total of the visitors.

Brock Motum led Washington State (2-1) with 15 points, but he made only 4-of-13 attempts from the floor and lost five turnovers. Royce Woolridge netted 11 point, but also turned the ball over five times. Mike Ladd produced a double- double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Cougars in their first loss of the 2012-2013 season.

WSU took a 30-26 lead into the intermission after it shot 47.8 percent from the field, while holding the Wave to only 37.9 percent shooting on their field goal attempts.

The Cougars seemed to have control of the game and held a 40-42 advantage with only 5:25 left to play, but the Wave made a late rally to salvage their chances. Jackson made three-pointers on Pepperdine's next two possessions to set the stage for Davis to tie the game up with a layup with 23 seconds remaining in regulation. Jackson then blocked Mike Ladd's layup attempt and Woolridge missed a jumper in the closing seconds, which sent the game into overtime.

WSU jumped out to a 55-50 lead in the extra period after Motum drained a pair of free throws and DaVonte Lacy nailed a shot from three-point range. Pepperdine climbed back to put Jackson in position for his go-ahead layup. The Wave sealed the victory by forcing Woolridge into a turnover on the Cougars' final possession.

Despite the loss, WSU held a 39-26 advantage in the rebounding battle. Pepperdine overcame its weak rebounding effort by draining 7-of-19 attempts from three-point range.
