Recap: Pittsburgh vs. Connecticut

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Lamar Patterson scored 14 points and dished out five assists as the Pittsburgh Panthers took care of the Connecticut Huskies, 69-61, in a Big East clash at the Petersen Events Center.

Tray Woodall finished with 13 points and a team-high six assists while James Robinson scored 12 points and made all four of his free throws late as the Panthers (15-4, 3-3 Big East) have responded from an overtime loss to Marquette with consecutive wins. Pitt's reserves outscored the UConn bench, 20-10.

Ryan Boatright netted a game-high 20 points to go along with six assists and four steals for Connecticut (12-5, 2-3) while freshman Omar Calhoun had 14 points and five boards. Leading scorer Shabazz Napier managed just eight points on 2-of-7 from the field.

Pittsburgh jumped out to a 35-22 halftime advantage after shooting 48.4 percent from the floor and controlling the glass, outrebounding UConn 23-15 in the first half. Seven members of the Huskies made one first half field goal but no player made more than one.

UConn battled back late in the second half and tied the game at 55-55 after a Niels Giffey dunk with 4:38 remaining in the game before Pitt regained control with back-to-back 3-pointers by Woodall and Robinson. Late free throws by Dante Taylor and Robinson sealed the victory for the Panthers.

The Panthers were efficient from 3-point range, connecting on 6-of-14 shots from behind the arc while UConn made just 6-of-22.
