Recap: Connecticut vs. Rutgers

Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Shabazz Napier scored 19 points as he helped guide the Connecticut Huskies to a 66-54 win over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a Big East Conference battle at the XL Center.

Napier also accounted for six assists and five rebounds for the Huskies (13-5, 3-3 Big East) as they snapped a two-game slide. Ryan Boatright chipped in 15 points and DeAndre Daniels 13 and a team-best seven rebounds in the triumph.

The Scarlet Knights (12-7, 3-5) were paced by Jerome Seagears who tallied a game-high 21 points, followed by Eli Carter with 13 points and six rebounds off the bench as the team bowed for the third time in as many games.

Rutgers, which led by as many as five points less than five minutes into the first half, ended up shooting just 9-of-25 from the floor in the period, en route to a 27-20 deficit at the break.

In the second half the Huskies converted only 39.3 percent from the field, but the team picked up the slack at the free-throw line (14-of-18) as it slowly pulled away down the stretch.

The Knights, who were outscored at the charity stripe 16-5, were forced into 16 turnovers which UConn traded in for 14 points on the afternoon.
