Recap: Providence vs. Connecticut

Providence, RI (Sports Network) - Ryan Boatright led four Huskies in double- figures with 19 points as the Connecticut Huskies held on to defeat the Providence Friars in overtime, 82-79, in Big East Conference play at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Boatright shot 3-of-6 behind the 3-point line for the Huskies (14-5, 4-3 Big East) and accounted for a team-best seven assists. Shabazz Napier and Deandre Daniels scored 18 points apiece, the latter clearing seven rebounds and handing out four assists before picking up his fifth personal foul. Omar Calhoun added 13 points as UConn won its second consecutive game.

For the Friars (10-11, 2-7), LaDontae Henton recorded a double-double off the bench with 15 points and 13 boards. Vincent Council also recorded a double- double in a reserve role with 15 points and 10 assists. Kadeem Batts was one rebound shy of a double-double with a game-high 20 points. Bryce Cotton added 18 points as Providence lost its third game in a row.

Providence dominated the boards in the first half, but UConn shot 52 percent from the floor, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, en route to a 33-32 advantage at the break.

UConn continued it's solid shooting during the second half, but a layup by Providence's Henton with 18 seconds remaining tied the contest at 69-69 to force overtime.

UConn made 2-of-3 from long range and 7-of-8 at the free-throw line, while holding Providence to a mere 1-of-4 from the floor in overtime, with a potential game-tying 3-pointer by Cotton missing the mark in the waning moments.

Despite the Huskies being dominated on the glass, 55-28, they shot 50 percent from the floor including 9-of-17 from long-range on the night.
