Recap: DePaul vs. Wichita State

Cancun, MX (Sports Network) - Malcolm Armstead led the way with 17 points as the Wichita State Shockers downed the DePaul Blue Demons, 75-62, the Moon Palace Resort as part of the Cancun Challenge.

For the Shockers (5-0), Demetric Williams added 16 points and Carl Hall finished with 11 in the victory.

Brandon Young led all scorers with 19 points for the Blue Demons (2-2), while Moses Morgan scored 15 and Cleveland Melvin chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Wichita State hit on only 33.3 percent of its field goal attempts and missed all but one of its seven three-point attempts in the first half, but was able to take a 27-22 advantage into halftime. DePaul struggled to shoot just 31.6 percent from the field and could manage just 1-of-8 on its shots from beyond the arc in the period as well.

After the break, the Blue Demons continued to have difficulty from the field, shooting just 30 percent, although they did manage to outscore the Shockers at the free-throw line, 18-9. The Shockers got hot in the second half, connecting on 51.4 percent of their field goals and were able hold on for the victory.

The Shockers, who will face the winner of the Western Kentucky/Iowa meeting in the title game on Wednesday, held a slight edge on the boards, 45-41. For the game, DePaul outscored Wichita State 27-15 at the charity stripe.
