Recap: DePaul vs. Rutgers

Rosemont, IL (Sports Network) - Worrell Clahar poured in a career-high 19 points to go along with seven assists, as the DePaul Blue Demons earned their first victory in more than a month with a 75-69 triumph over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Big East Conference play at Allstate Arena.

Brandon Young added 16 points and Cleveland Melvin scored 15 to help the Blue Demons (11-14, 2-10 Big East) snap a nine-game losing streak. Donnavan Kirk finished with 11 points and seven rebounds in the victory.

Myles Mack led all scorers with 28 points for the Scarlet Knights (13-11, 4-9), while Wally Judge added 10 points and six rebounds.

Rutgers shot just 38.5 percent from the floor in the opening frame, but the Scarlet Knights made up for it with 10 points at the free-throw line as the first half ended in a 32-32 tie.

The Blue Demons had the hot hand early in the second stanza, as they turned a two-point deficit into a 10-point advantage with 9:08 to play. However, the Scarlet Knights managed to hang around thanks to a 53.6-percent shooting effort from the floor over the final 20 minutes. With 35 seconds left and the Blue Demons clinging to a 70-66 lead, DePaul's Charles McKinney missed a jumper, although Clahar was there to corral the offensive rebound and set up a pair of free throws by Young to extend the lead.

The Blue Demons held a 38-30 rebounding advantage for the game, and they also outscored RU inside the paint, 44-34.
