Recap: Georgetown vs. St Johns

Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - Nate Lubick registered a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to lift the Georgetown Hoyas to a 68-56 decision over the St. John's Red Storm in Big East Conference action at the Verizon Center.

Markel Starks dealt out six assists, Jabril Trawick swiped three steals, and they both scored 12 points for Georgetown (16-4, 6-3 Big East) as it notched its fourth win in a row. Otto Porter chimed in with 11 points and seven rebounds.

JaKarr Sampson paced the Red Storm (14-8, 6-4) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Phil Greene IV and Marco Bourgault tallied 12 points apiece as St. John's had its five-game winning streak snapped.

The Red Storm held an early three-point advantage on the scoreboard before Porter scored seven consecutive points to spark a 12-0 run that put Georgetown up for good. The Hoyas outscored the visitors, 20-6, in the paint in the opening 20 minutes on their way to a 39-28 halftime lead.

Both sides were ice cold after the intermission. Georgetown hit just 33.3 percent of its field goal attempts. St. John's only lost the second stanza by a single point despite shooting just 29.7 percent from the field in the period.

Georgetown enjoyed a 41-34 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored the Red Storm, 27-12, from beyond the arc.
