Recap: UC Irvine vs. Nevada

Irvine, CA (Sports Network) - Daman Starring poured in 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the UC Irvine Anteaters to a 78-64 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack at the Bren Events Center.

Michael Wilder contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for UC Irvine (1-0). Alex Young provided a spark off the bench with 12 points on 4- of-5 shooting from the field. Adam Folker and Chris McNealy dished out three assists each while the team had a collective total of just eight turnovers.

Malik Story paced Nevada (0-1) with 21 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field. Kevin Panzer pulled down a team-high nine rebounds in the losing effort. The Wolf Pack finished with just six assists to 11 turnovers.

UC Irvine led by as many as 10 before gliding into the intermission with a 41-35 advantage. The Anteaters scored 15 second chance points in the opening half to power its early lead.

Nevada was dominated inside after the break, as it was outscored 22-12 in the paint in the final 20 minutes. The Anteaters led by a double-digit margin for the last 18 minutes of the game.

The Wolf Pack made only 2-of-16 from three-point range in the contest. The Anteaters held a 51-37 advantage in the rebounding battle.
