Recap: Seton Hall vs. Marquette

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Vander Blue scored 19 points for the second straight game and the 17th-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles disposed of the Seton Hall Pirates, 67-46, on Tuesday at Prudential Center.

Davante Gardner had 18 points off the bench and played an important role during a second-half surge to help the Golden Eagles (19-6, 10-3 Big East) pull away for good and capture their fourth win in five games.

With the rest of the conference idle on Tuesday, the victory puts Marquette alone atop the Big East with five games remaining.

In suffering their first eight-game losing streak since the 1985-86 season, the Pirates (13-14, 2-12) never got their offensive game going and only managed 19 points over the final 20 minutes.

Fuquan Edwin led Seton Hall with 14 points in the setback.

After a sub-par first half performance which had the score knotted at 27-27, the Golden Eagles came out of the locker room and turned up the heat.

Over a near nine-minute stretch, Marquette racked up just two fewer points than their first half total while allowing only a single-point to grab a commanding 57-34 lead.

Five consecutive Seton Hall turnovers helped spark the 25-1 push, with Gardner scoring 10 points during the stretch and Blue and Jamil Wilson each adding triples to help create the 23-point margin.

Although the Pirates only attempted five shots during the drought, their poor shooting caught up with them, as they converted a brutal 29.4 percent for the contest.

Before their deficit became insurmountable, Seton Hall remained close with Marquette over the initial 20 minutes.

Despite Blue's 5-of-7 shooting performance in the opening half, the Pirates held the rest of the Golden Eagles to a lackluster 5-of-20 from the field.

Aaron Cosby knocked down a trio of triples in the first half, with his third coming late in the stanza to help the Pirates draw even by the break.

It's been more than two decades since the football team at the University of Colorado hoisted its one and only national championship trophy, and the program has struggled to remain relevant ever since.
