Recap: New Mexico vs. Nevada

Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) - Hugh Greenwood stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists on Saturday, as No. 20 New Mexico held off Nevada, 75-62, at University Arena.

Demetrius Walker donated 12 points and Chad Adams added 10 for the Lobos (19-3, 6-1 MWC), who have won two straight since suffering their lone conference loss of the season on Jan. 26 at San Diego State.

"We have a lot of guys who can hurt you," New Mexico coach Steve Alford said. "I'm sure coming into this game their coaching staff wasn't looking at Demetrius Walker and Chad Adams as two guys who were going to hurt them."

Malik Story scored a game-high 20 points, while Deonte Burton added 13 points and seven assists for the Wolf Pack (11-10, 2-5), who have lost two straight and six of their last eight.

New Mexico led, 34-32, at halftime and it remained a one-possession contest for the first half of the second stanza until Adams caught fire near the midpoint of the frame.

Adams netted eight of 10 points during a 10-2 New Mexico run that the senior swingman capped with a 3-pointer to make it 60-53 with 7:12 remaining.

A Story triple quelled the surge to trim the deficit to four, but the Lobos responded with a 7-2 swing to push the margin to 67-58 with 4:01 left.

Jerry Evans Jr. answered with a trey to cut it to six, but the Wolf Pack went the final 3:43 without a field goal, allowing New Mexico to cruise to victory down the stretch.

"The guys fought hard," Nevada coach David Carter said. "I didn't see the game as New Mexico dominating us. They did play very well and they shot the ball well, but our guys competed and I thought we had a chance. It kind of got away from us."

Early on, Greenwood and Kendall Williams opened the contest with consecutive triples to help the Lobos jump out to a 14-8 edge just under 8 1/2 minutes in.

The margin was six, 27-21, with under 5 1/2 minutes left after a Tony Snell 3- pointer, but the Wolf Pack closed the half on an 11-7 swing to trim the deficit to two heading into the locker room.
