Recap: Hawaii vs. Cal Poly

Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Chris Eversley pumped in 25 points as the Cal Poly Mustangs held on for a 64-61 victory over the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in a Big West Conference tilt at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Reese Morgan added 10 points for Cal Poly (15-12, 10-6 Big West) as it notched its third win in a row. Brian Bennett got into the mix with eight points and seven rebounds.

Isaac Fotu scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Hawaii (17-12, 10-7), which had not lost at home since Jan. 19. Vander Joaquim registered a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds while Hauns Brereton netted 13 points. Jace Tavita dealt out seven assists in the losing effort.

Cal Poly managed to build a 23-16 lead by the 6:52 mark of the first half to take control. Hawaii responded with seven unanswered points before Reese Morgan drained a pair of foul shots to send the Mustangs into the break on top, 27-25. The Warriors made only one of their attempts from behind the 3- point line before the break.

Hawaii improved after the break to hit 4-of-10 from beyond the arc as part of its 42.3 percent efficiency from the field. The Mustangs were able to drain 66.7 percent of their field goal tries in the second half where they went ahead by as many as 13. Brandon Jawato sank a trey with 55 seconds left for the Warriors to cut their deficit to just three points at 64-61. Vander rejected Morgan's jumper on the next possession to give Hawaii a chance to even the score, but Brereton missed a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left. Bennett was fouled and given a one-and-one opportunity at the free-throw line, but he missed the first. Reese made a huge play as he grabbed the offensive board to end the Warriors' threat.

Hawaii was unable to defend its home court despite dishing out 12 assists to just three turnovers. Cal Poly finished with 18 assists to eight turnovers.
