Recap: CS-Northridge vs. UC Irvine

Northridge, CA (Sports Network) - Josh Greene scored 19 of his 21 points after halftime to propel the Cal State Northridge Matadors past the UC Irvine Anteaters for a 70-61 victory in Big West Conference action at The Matadome.

Trevone Williams added 14 points off the bench for Northridge (12-11, 3-8 Big West). Stephen Maxwell registered a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds while Donovan Johnson also tallied 11 points to push the Matadors to their third consecutive win.

Daman Starring finished with 15 points and six rebounds for UC Irvine (12-11, 6-4) as it had its brief two-game winning streak concluded. Chris McNealy also got into the mix with 12 points while Alex Young produced 10 points and five assists in the losing effort.

The Matadors came out of the gate slow to go 8-of-29 from the floor and 5-of-9 at the free-throw line. UC Irvine shot 42.3 percent from the field before the break en route to a 33-24 halftime lead.

Greene went 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in the second half as Northridge shot an even 50 percent from the floor after the intermission. The Anteaters cooled off to make only 37.5 percent of their field goal attempts and committed seven turnovers as they let their lead slip away in the final 20 minutes. UC Irvine held a 46-41 lead with 12:13 left in regulation before Greene connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Matadors their first lead of the game, which they protected the rest of the way.

Northridge held a 40-36 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored the visitors, 34-18, in bench points to capture the decision.
