Recap: Long Beach State vs. Hawaii

Long Beach, CA (Sports Network) - Mike Caffey netted 18 points, including the game-winning jump shot with two seconds remaining, as the Long Beach State 49ers held on for a 76-72 win over the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in a Big West Conference tilt at Walter Pyramid.

Peter Pappageorge added 15 points off the bench for LBSU (8-8, 4-1 Big West), shooting 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 6-of-6 from the foul line. James Ennis went for 11 points and eight boards, while Deng Deng hit 4-of-6 from beyond the arc for 12 points off the bench.

Vander Joaquim was the lone Hawaii (9-7, 3-2) starter to reach double figures with 13 points on 6-of-14 field goal shooting. Brandon Jawato shot 6-of-9 from the floor and connected on four triples for a team-high 16 points off the bench.

The 49ers came out firing, making 8-of-16 from 3-point range in the first half while holding Hawaii to just 30.8 percent from behind the arc. LBSU broke a 27-27 tie with seven minutes remaining in the half with an 11-1 run and led 43-36 at halftime.

LBSU maintained its lead throughout the second half until Jawato hit his fourth 3-pointer of the game to tie the score at 72-72 with 1:08 remaining. After empty possessions by each team, LBSU inbounded to Caffey, who took the ball the length of the floor and hit a jumper to take the lead. The 49ers added a pair of free throws to seal the victory.

LBSU has now won three consecutive games, and it holds a 7-5 advantage over Hawaii in the all-time series.
