Recap: UC Santa Barbara vs. Long Beach State

Santa Barbara, CA (Sports Network) - Mike Caffey led four players in double figures for the Long Beach State 49ers who dropped the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, 77-70, in Big West conference action at the Thunderdome.

Caffey scored 19 points, James Ennis added 18, Tony Freeland dropped in 15 and Dan Jennings chipped in 13 for Long Beach State (6-8, 2-1 Big West). Caffey was also a rebound shy of a double-double.

Alan Williams had 16 points and eight rebounds to pace UC Santa Barbara (5-10, 1-2). Michael Bryson added 15 points, Kyle Boswell had 14 off the bench and Taran Brown chipped in 11.

Caffey scored 11 of his points in the first half as the 49ers used a 53.3 percent shooting effort to take a 41-31 lead into the break. UC Santa Barbara hit on just 40.7 percent of its field goal attempts.

The Gauchos improved their shooting in the second half, connecting on 52.0 percent of their shots including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. Long Beach State was able to hold on by hitting on 55.2 percent of its second half field goal attempts.

The 49ers dominated inside with a 52-16 edge on points from inside the paint. Long Beach State also turned 18 UC Santa Barbara turnovers into 25 points.
