Recap: UC Davis vs. Northern Ariz

Davis, CA (Sports Network) - Gabe Rogers poured in 27 points as the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks held off the UC Davis Aggies 85-82 in a non-conference clash at The Pavilion.

Dewayne Russell had 25 points and handed out six assists as well for Northern Arizona (1-2) which earned its first win of the season. Ephraim Ekanem finished with 12 points.

Corey Hawkins erupted for 30 points and Ryan Sypkens dropped in 25 for UC Davis (0-2). Ryan Howley chipped in 10 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double.

Both teams shot at a high percentage in the first half with Northern Arizona knocking down 51.3 percent of its shots including 7-of-15 from beyond the arc to earn a 51-42 lead at the break.

The Lumberjacks led by as many as 12 points in the second half but the Aggies rallied and cut the lead to 81-80 with a little more than a minute remaining. However the Lumberjacks were able to hold on for the win by knocking down 4- of-4 free throws in the final minutes. UC Davis had a chance to send the game to overtime at the buzzer but Josh Ritchart missed a 3-pointer at the end of regulation.
