Recap: UC Irvine vs. Liberty

Huntsville, TX (Sports Network) - Daman Starring recorded a game-high 12 points as the UC Irvine Anteaters defeated the Liberty Flames, 64-46, in the Progressive Legends Classic sub-regional at Bernard Johnson Coliseum

Starring was 5-of-7 shooting from the floor for the Anteaters (2-1) and was joined in double-figure scoring by Chris McNealy who contributed 10 points off the bench.

For the Flames (0-3), Davon Marshall and Tavares Speaks contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.

UC Irvine connected on 12-of-28 shots in the first 20 minutes giving it a 30-24 lead, over the struggling Anteaters at the half. Liberty made 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, while the Flames could only muster 2-of-9 from three- point range.

The Anteaters continued their solid play in the second half, hitting 44.0 percent from the field, while at the same time limiting the Flames to just 1- of-3 from the perimeter en route to the 18-point decision.

UC Irvine forced 20 turnovers, while limiting itself to just seven. The Anteaters knocked down 23-of-53 shots from the floor in the win.
