Recap: Pepperdine vs. UC Irvine

Malibu, CA (Sports Network) - Behind a career-high 28 points from Lorne Jackson, the Pepperdine Waves rode past the UC Irvine Anteaters, 72-62, in non-conference action at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Jackson shot 9-of-15 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free throw line for Pepperdine (3-2). Stacy Davis scored 12 points, and Jordan Baker tallied 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for the hosts.

For UCI (3-4), Daman Starring came off the bench to score 25 points on 6-of-9 from three-point range. Chris McNealy put up 15 points, but no other Anteater scored in double-figures.

Pepperdine got out to a 33-23 lead at intermission behind a lofty 53.8 percent field goal shooting. UCI made just 9-of-27 field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes.

The Anteaters battled back to make it a five-point game, 64-59, with just over a minute to play, but the Waves connected on 8-of-10 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the victory.

Pepperdine was able to overcome 17 turnovers by going 26-of-36 from the line, while UCI was just 7-of-12 on its free throws.
