Recap: UC Santa Barbara vs. UC Irvine

Santa Barbara, CA (Sports Network) - Kyle Boswell scored 23 points off the bench as the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos rallied for a 74-71 victory over the UC Irvine Anteaters in Big West conference action at the Thunderdome.

Alan Williams had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds as well as five blocks for UCSB (4-8, 1-1 Big West) which snapped a three-game losing streak. Taran Brown also added 18 points and T.J. Taylor handed out eight assists.

Daman Starring dropped in 21 points for UC Irvine (7-8, 1-1) which had won three of its previous four. Alex Young finished with 18 points and Adam Folker chipped in 10 points.

UC Irvine led 37-32 at the break by connecting on 46.2 percent of its field goal attempts while UCSB lagged behind at 34.6 percent.

The Gauchos heated up to 63.0 percent shooting in the second half, including a 7-of-12 showing from beyond the arc but still found themselves tied 71-71 in the final seconds. Williams was fouled after making a jump shot with eight seconds remaining and made the ensuing free throw to lift the Gauchos to victory.

The Anteaters lost despite a 22-12 edge in points in the paint. The two teams combined for 23 3-pointers in the game.
