Recap: UNLV vs. San Diego St

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Anthony Bennett recorded 21 points and 12 rebounds as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels held on to defeat the San Diego State Aztecs, 72-70, in Mountain West Conference action at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Runnin' Rebels (19-7, 6-5 MWC) was Khem Birch with 16 points, to go along with seven rebounds and five blocked shots as they won for the second time in the last three outings.

The Aztecs (18-7, 6-5) were led by Chase Tapley with 22 points, shooting 4- of-8 behind the 3-point line, while JJ O'Brien recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the team's second straight loss. Jamaal Franklin was just 5-of-15 from the floor, 0-of-5 beyond the arc, as he tallied 11 points and five steals.

SDSU led by as many as 11 points in the first half, shooting 46.3 percent from the floor, en route to a 40-34 edge at the break.

In the second half the Aztecs went cold, connecting on only 9-of-31 from the floor, opening the door for UNLV to not only bounce back but lead by as many as 10 points with just over five minutes remaining before having to hold on for the two-point decision.

UNLV overcame 17 turnovers by outscoring the visitors at the charity stripe, 19-8.
