Recap: Bradley vs. Illinois State

Peoria, IL (Sports Network) - Walt Lemon Jr. scored a game-high 27 points as the Bradley Braves knocked off the Illinois State Redbirds, 83-77, in Missouri Valley Conference action at Carver Arena.

Dyricus Simms-Edwards and Tyshon Pickett each tallied 15 points for Illinois State (13-9, 5-5 MVC) which had lost consecutive games entering play.

John Wilkins and Jackie Carmichael each netted 16 points and Tyler Brown added 13 for Illinois State (12-10, 3-7) which had its three-game winning streak come to an end.

At the end of the first half it was Illinois State that led 36-28 after shooting 52.2 percent from the field including a 5-of-8 effort from beyond the arc. Bradley fell behind by shooting just 30.3 percent while missing all 10 shots from 3-point range.

In the second half the Braves heated up to 64.5 percent shooting while the Redbirds cooled to 40 percent. The Redbirds did hit 8-of-16 shots from beyond the arc in the period to remain within striking distance but after falling behind 65-63 with 4:11 left were never able to retake the lead.

In the game Bradley forced 23 turnovers which the Braves converted into 27 points. The Braves also dominated in the paint where they outscored the Redbirds 46-14.
