Recap: Idaho vs. Texas-Arlington

Moscow, ID (Sports Network) - Kevin Butler drained all seven of his 3-point attempts for a career-high 23 points, as the Texas-Arlington Mavericks held off the Idaho Vandals, 71-68, in Western Athletic Conference action at Cowan Spectrum.

Brandon Edwards added 11 points for UTA (13-9, 8-5 WAC), which has won a season-high three straight games.

For Idaho (9-15, 5-9), Stephen Madison scored 25 points and was also red-hot from beyond the arc, making 5-of-5 from deep. Kyle Barone tallied 21 points and 10 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season, while Mansa Habeeb chipped in 11 points for the Vandals, who have lost three in a row.

UTA trailed by six less than four minutes into the game, but it ended the first half 6-of-10 from 3-point range and took a 39-30 lead into the break.

Idaho opened the second half on a 17-6 run to take a 47-45 lead on a Connor Hill 3-pointer at the 14:23 mark, but UTA answered immediately with a 7-0 spurt to regain its advantage. The Vandals came back once again, tying the game, 59-59, with less than nine minutes left. Greg Gainey converted a layup for the Mavericks less than a minute later, and they never again surrendered the lead. Idaho shot just 1-of-8 from the field in the final five minutes.

UTA held on to win despite its foul trouble, as it was outscored from the free-throw line, 25-10.
