Recap: Drake vs. IUPU-Ft Wayne

Des Moines, IA (Sports Network) - Chris Hines had a team-high 19 points as the Drake Bulldogs defeated the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons, 74-64, at the Knapp Center.

Hines was a solid 3-of-6 from beyond the arc for the Bulldogs (4-4) and was joined in double-figure scoring by Ben Simons, who contributed 15 points. Jordan Clarke scored nine points and pulled-down 11 boards in the triumph.

For the Mastodons (5-6), Frank Gaines had a game-high 27 points to go with six rebounds and three steals. Michael Kibiloski contributed 10 points and seven boards in the setback.

IPFW kept the game close for much of the first half, but Drake ended the frame on a 10-0 run to go into intermission with a 39-29 lead.

The Mastodons got no closer than seven points of the lead in the second half.

Drake shot 46.2 percent from the floor, while limiting the visitors to a mere 35.6 percent, including 5-of-17 from long range. IPFW was also plagued by 21 turnovers.
