Recap: Utah State vs. New Mexico St

Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Jarred Shaw scored 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Utah State Aggies held on to defeat the Aggies of New Mexico State, 73-69, in Western Athletic Conference action at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Also scoring in double figures for USU (18-6, 9-5 WAC) was Spencer Butterfield who dropped in 17 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists as the team won for the fourth time in five tries.

New Mexico State (18-9, 12-3) was paced by Remi Barry with his 15 points off the bench, followed by Bandja Sy with 12 and Terrel deRouen and Daniel Mullings with 11 points apiece as the loss snapped NMSU's 12-game win streak.

Utah State scored the first points of the night and ended up leading by as many as 14 points with just over 13 minutes to play in the first half. The hosts connected on 53.6 percent from the floor in the frame, en route to a 40-37 edge at the break.

In the second half NMSU shot just 37.9 percent from the field, yet the visitors still made things interesting down the stretch before suffering the four-point loss.

The visiting Aggies scored 25 second-chance points thanks to 17 offensive rebounds, but the team shot only 4-of-15 beyond the arc on the night.
