Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Jamel Outler scored 15 points in a reserve role as he helped guide the Mavericks of Texas-Arlington to an 81-74 win versus the San Jose State Spartans in Western Athletic Conference play at College Park Center.

Also coming off the bench for the Mavericks (16-10, 10-5 WAC) were Karol Gruszecki and Greg Gainey who tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively, followed by Jordan Reves with 10 and nine rebounds as UTA won for the sixth time in the last seven outings.

The Spartans (9-17, 3-12), losers of 11 in a row, were paced by Louis Garrett who tallied a game-high 25 points, followed by D.J. Brown with 16 points to go along with six boards and four assists in the setback. Chris Cunningham responded with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while Xavier Jones dropped in 11 points and handed out five assists.

UTA opened the contest on an 11-4 run to take control in the first half, eventually putting up a 39-30 lead at the break even after the Spartans shot 5-of-9 behind the 3-point line through the first 20 minutes of action.

The second half saw SJSU make only 5-of-16 beyond the arc, which allowed the hosts to carry a double-digit edge for much of the period before settling for the seven-point win.

The Spartans hurt themselves with only 16-of-27 shooting at the charity stripe and 15 turnovers.
